I have a friend in the States who loves sewing vintage costumes and doll clothes - The Edwardian Girl. She specialises in Edwardian clothing, but does other eras as well. If you’ve been waiting to get a Titanic reproduction dress, a Regency frock to wear to a Jane Austen event or even a Civil War reenacting dress, here’s your girl.

I’m promoting her here as she’s just had a real blow. She lost her beloved mother a couple of years ago after a hard struggle with cancer, and now her father has been diagnosed with cancer of the lungs and liver. The emotional burden is unimaginable enough without taking into consideration what they face financially, still trying to manage the medical expenses of her mother’s treatment.

If any of my followers need an historic reproduction gown, or would like to take this opportunity to clothe their dolls in interesting attire, now’s your chance - and you’d be helping out a really lovely person. If not, could you please reblog? Any help she gets would be wonderful.

There was more homosexual content in European and even American films in the pre-Code era (although it wasn’t dealt with particularly openly and was often depicted with negative connotations), but in this instance the film is 1921’s ”Orphans of the Storm” - the two actresses are sisters (Lillian and Dorothy Gish) and they’re playing two sisters (Louise and Henriette), one of whom is supposed to be blind, thus the intimacy of their interaction. D W Griffith, the film’s director, was not particularly enlightened when it came to issues of female sexuality, let alone homosexuality.
