A couturier I find truly inspirational - Madeleine Vionnet. Not only did she create beautiful designs using truly innovative techniques in cut and draping (e.g. the bias cut) and act as a pioneer in promoting the concept of intellectual copyright in design, she was enlightened in terms of labor relations. She went so far as to include a clinic with both doctors and dentists for her workers at her design house, and even had a gymnasium for their use. Besides that, there was a canteen, maternity leave, paid holidays and a creche so working mothers could take their children to work with them.
A remarkable artist, businesswoman and social pioneer.
