The French tricolour is represented in this World War I image by three flowers of France - Le Bleuet (the cornflower, which came to represent the dead of the war), le Lis (lily, which has connections with French royalty) and Le Coquelicot (the poppy, which has associations with Rememberance and the dead of WWI)
