1920s peach beaded chiffon dress.
I often get asked why my vintage dresses are in such good condition…I try to buy gowns that are in good condition or can be repaired (fortunately my mother is an excellent seamstress and innovative restorer), and I store them with care.
However, inevitably (as I tell every new 1920s collector), you will have your heart broken. I have a whole subcollection of “glorious ruins” - distintigrating dresses that are beyond restoration, but which I love too much not to offer a home. This beaded dress is one such gown. The beading is in excellent condition - very strong and intact - but the chiffon base is distintegrating. I’m hoping to eventually tranfer all the beading to a replica gown.
